Brenton D. Wynn, M.D. grew up in San Diego and after obtaining a bachelor's degree in Physiological Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles he attended Howard University College of Medicine where he received his Medical degree in 1998. Following an internship at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ he began his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Stanford University Medical Center. Upon completion of his residency he began a Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Medicine and Interventional Spine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, which was completed in June 2004. Dr. Wynn is Board certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and in Pain Medicine. He completed his Medical Acupuncture training through the Helms Medical Institute Physician course in 2005. He is currently undergoing certification with the California Association of Professional Ringside Physicians.
Dr. Wynn has a private practice in San Diego where he provides Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pain Management, Interventional Spine, Sports and Musculoskeletal medical services. He is a member of the Paradise Valley Hospital Inpatient Rehabilitation Staff and is the acting Medical Director for the San Diego Gateway Center for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Dr Wynn is also the Medical Director for R.I.S.E. Wellness Center in Bonita, CA
Dr. Wynn also has athletic and fitness instruction background which stems from 29 years of martial arts experience. He is a certified instructor in the Chiang Lung Kuo Shu Kwan system of kung fu and in Kenpo Karate. In addition he has extensive experience in Arnis De Mano of the Philippines, Capoeira Angola of Brazil, and Sanshou Chinese freestyle kickboxing. He has experience competing in, and preparing students for numerous tournaments involving empty hand and weapon divisions. He has also performed extensively with the Green Dragon Martial Arts Demo Team and has been involved in martial arts choreography and stunt work in motion pictures and theatrical productions.
As a Physiatrist, a physician who specializes in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dr. Wynn focuses on working to restore optimal function in people who have suffered injuries, pain and disability from various sources. Dr Wynn's goal is to provide a comprehensive non-surgical approach to pain and injury by focusing on the whole person and assisting the patient in the understanding of their condition and taking control of their own health. He works in conjunction with other health care professionals including chiropractors, acupuncturists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, massage therapists, nutritionists, speech therapists, psychologists and athletic trainers to direct a treatment team to develop a comprehensive program specific to a patient's needs and conditions.
